The Celestial Sphere
- The celestial sphere is a model of the sky wherein the Earth is in the center of an imaginary hollow sphere of a very large radius, to which the stars seem to be attached.
- Circumpolar constellations never seem to dip below the horizon.
- The ecliptic is the path which the Sun seems to travel among the stars.
- The zodiac is a band 18 degrees wide, centered on the ecliptic, divided into 12 equal signs of 2 hours each, in which the Sun, Moon, and planets travel.
