‘Armed with power’ — missionary thoughts from Doctrine and Covenants 109

Late in 2014, I was reviewing Doctrine and Covenants 109:22-23, applying the verses to missionary service.  Doctrine and Covenants section 109 is the dedicatory prayer offered by the Prophet Joseph at the dedication of the Kirtland Temple.  Verses 22 and 23 of that prayer read: “And we ask thee, Holy Father, that thy servants may go forth from this house [the temple] armed with thy power, and that thy name may be upon them, and thy glory be round about them, and thine angels have charge over them; And from this place they may bear exceedingly great and glorious tidings, in truth, unto the ends of the earth, that they may know that this is thy work, and that thou hast put forth thy hand, to fulfill that which thou hast spoken by the mouths of the prophets…”  What beautiful promises are given there for those who go forth to preach the gospel, and they all APPLY TO US AS MISSIONARIES!  Missionaries are armed with power, the name of the Lord is upon them, the glory of God surrounds and accompanies missionaries every moment of their wonderful missions, and missionaries can and will KNOW that this is the Lord’s work!  All of those great promises are being fulfilled for our wonderful full-time missionaries, even as they begin their service in the various missionary training centers!
