‘Paul on the road to Damascus’ mural — Provo Missionary Training Center

Discussion thoughts and promptings

‘Paul on the road to Damascus’ mural — Provo Missionary Training Center  (This mural is found on the sixth floor of building T4, west end)

  • Acts 9:4 — “…and he fell to the earth”.  In the mural, Saul (Paul) is standing.  What significance is there in Paul falling to the earth.  See also 1 Nephi 17:55.
  • Notice the surrounding landscape.  Any significance or symbolism?  What about the nearby tree?
  • Act 9:4-5 — “Why persecutest thou me?”  Why “me” rather than “my disciples”?  The Lord also said, “I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.”  Significance?
  • Acts 9:6 — “What wilt thou have me do?”  What will the Lord have US do?
  • Acts 9:6 — “It shall be told thee what thou must do.”  Why didn’t the Lord tell him right then what he should do?  Why the three-day delay?  Symbolism?
  • Compare Acts 9:7 and Acts 22:9.  Christianity in general is very patient with errors found in the Bible, but very critical and intolerant of perceived Book of Mormon errors.  Is there a lesson in this for us?  See Mormon 9:31.
  • Acts 9:6 — “…MUST do…”  Significance of the word MUST?  Are we willing to do the Lord’s work in the Lord’s way?
  • Acts 9:15 — “…a chosen vessel…”   How well does the Lord know us?  Can you think of other “chosen vessels”  who needed to change their ways before becoming instruments in the Lord’s hands?  What about us
