Missionary planner highlights:

01)  Planning guidelines
.      a.  Apply the following guidelines during your weekly and daily planning.  As you do, talk about people.  Consider the needs of each individual in your name file.
.      b. Pray for and seek inspiration.
.      c. Set goals and make plans for friends with a baptismal date.
.      d. Set goals and make plans to help friends attend sacrament meeting.
.      e. Set goals and make plans for lessons to be taught to progressing friends.
.      f.  Set goals and make plans for lessons to be taught to all other friends.
.      g. Set goals and make plans to contact and teach referrals received from members and all other sources of referrals.
.      h. Set goals and make plans to seek more referrals from members and friends.
.      i   Set goals and make plans for lessons taught to recent converts and less-active members.
.      j.  Set goals and make plans to find new friends to be taught.
.      k. Schedule meetings that occur regularly.
.     As you follow the guidelines above, be sure to use the most productive time for the most productive activities (baptisms and teaching).  Reduce travel time by
.     planning appointments and activities in the same area, and be prompt for all appointments.

02)  Events that lead to baptism, confirmation, and activity in the Church
.    • Below is a list of events that generally should happen for a person to experience conversion, meet the qualifications for baptism and confirmation, and remain
.      active in the Church.  As you set goals and make plans, consider these events so that they happen for each person.
.    • Be invited to investigate.    • Be taught the missionary lessons.    • Read from the Book of Mormon.    • Pray.    • Attend sacrament and other meetings.
.    • Introduce family and friends to the missionaries.    • Children attend Primary, Young Men, or Young Women.    • Attend a baptismal service.
.    • Be interviewed for baptism and confirmation.    • Meet the bishop and members of the ward council.    • Be baptized and confirmed.
.    • Develop friendship with ward and Church members.    • Invite friends and family to attend their baptism and confirmation.    • Live the Word of Wisdom.
.    • Live the law of chastity.    • Live the law of tithing.    • Live the law of the fast.    • Hold weekly family home evenings.    • Have daily family prayer.
.    • Have daily family scripture study.    • Receive the priesthood.    • Receive a church calling.    • Participate in proxy baptisms in a temple.

03) Ideas for finding friends to teach
.    • Teach members the message of the Restoration and ask for referrals.
.    • Work with the ward council to identify those who have a new baby, are recently moved in, or have had a death in the family.
.    • Look for opportunities to serve.
.    • Invite people to attend church.
.    • Hold member firesides to which they can bring friends that are not of our faith.
.    • Offer to teach people how to hold a family home evening.
.    • Offer to take those you meet on a tour of the local meetinghouse.
.    • Prepare a four generation pedigree for a family.
.    • Invite people to visit www.mormon.org or www.familyserach org.
.    • Organize a scripture study class.
.    • Teach English as a second language.
.    • Go tracting or street contacting.
.    • Use Church materials like pass-along cards, DVDs, and brochures.
.    • Ask friends and new converts for referrals.
.    • Work with the public affairs representative for opportunities to get articles published in local newspapers.
.    • Ask everyone you meet for referrals.
.    • Put your name on lists at hospitals or funeral home as clergy who will talk to people in crisis.
.   • How to begin a conversation with new friends:
.        ◊ Ask about their family and/or their work
.        ◊ Ask if they know any members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
.        ◊ Ask about their religious background or religious experiences
.        ◊ Ask about their challenges, needs, or concerns, and offer to help if appropriate
.        ◊ Ask about any expectations they might have in visiting with missionaries
.        ◊ Ask about their experience with prayer

04)  Message of the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
.     After centuries of being lost, the gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to the earth by our loving Heavenly Father through a living prophet.  The Book of
.     Mormon is evidence of this that you can hold in your hands.  You can read it, ponder how the message in the book can improve your life, and pray to know that
.     the message is the word of God.
.    • God is our loving Heavenly Father (Mosiah 4:9)
.    • The Gospel blesses families (Mosiah 2:41)
.    • Heavenly Father reveals His gospel in every dispensation (2 Nephi 31:20-21)
.    • The Savior ministered here on earth (John 3:16)
.    • The Great Apostasy occurred (Acts 20:29-30)
.    • The Restoration of the Gospel occurred through Joseph Smith (Joseph Smith History 1:16-17)
.    • The Book of Mormon, Another Testament of Jesus Christ, was translated by Joseph Smith (Title page of the Book of Mormon)
.    • You can pray to know the truth of the above-mentioned blessings through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost (Moroni 10:4-5)
.    • Commitments:
.        ◊ Will you read the Book of Mormon and pray to know that it is the word of God?
.        ◊ Will you pray to know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God?
.        ◊ Will you attend church services with us this coming Sunday?
.        ◊ May we set a time for our next visit?

05) The Plan of Salvation
.     The plan of salvation teaches us where we came from, why we are here on earth, and where we will go after this life.  It maps our eternal journey from pre-mortality, through mortal life, death, and resurrection, to our eternal life.  The plan also explains what our loving Father in Heaven does to help us make this journey successfully so that we can return to His presence and become like Him.  The plan focuses on the mission and Atonement of Jesus Christ in overcoming the effects of the Fall and making eternal life possible for us.  We invite you to ponder and pray about this message.

06) The Commandments — preparing for baptism and confirmation (each commandment is followed by related commitments)
.    • Obedience — Will you obey the laws of God?
.    • Pray often — Will you kneel and pray daily as individuals and as a family?
.    • Study the scriptures — Will you read the scriptures daily as individuals and as a family?
.    • Keep the Sabbath Day holy —  Will you keep the Sabbath day holy?  Will you prepare yourself to partake of the sacrament worthily?
.    • Baptism and confirmation — Will you be baptized and confirmed?  Will you invite friends to attend a baptismal service and/or a confirmation service?
.    • Follow the prophet — Will you meet the bishop?  Will you sustain and follow the counsel of Church leaders?
.    • Keep the Ten Commandments — Will you keep the Ten Commandments?
.    • Live the law of chastity — Will you live the law of chastity?
.    • Obey the Word of Wisdom — Will you live the Word of Wisdom?
.    • Keep the law of tithing — Will you live the law of tithing after you are baptized?
.    • Observe the law of the fast — Will you fast and pray on Fast Sunday for some special need?  Will you donate a generous fast offering after baptism?
.    • How to donate tithes and offerings — Show a donation slip and explain how to use it.
.    • Obey and honor the laws of the land — Will you obey the laws of your country?

07) Laws and Ordinances — opportunities and obligations after baptism and confirmation  (each doctrine is followed by related commitments)
.    • Priesthood and auxiliaries — Will you prepare to receive the Aaronic Priesthood (worthy and eligible males age 11 and older)?  Will you prepare to
.       receive the Melchizedek Priesthood (worthy and eligible adult males)?  Will you participate actively in appropriate auxiliaries?
.    • Missionary work — Will you prepare to invite friends and relatives who do not belong to the Church to meet with the missionaries to be taught the gospel?
.      Will you pray for the missionaries and for the opportunity to share the gospel?  Will you prepare to serve a mission?
.    • Eternal marriage — Will you hold weekly family home evening, daily family prayer, daily family scripture study, and other family activities?  Will you prepare to
.       enter the temple to receive your endowment, to be married for eternity, to be sealed as husband and wife, to have your children sealed to you?  Will you
.       worship on the Sabbath as a family?  Will you serve others?
.    • Temples and family history — Will you prepare to receive temple ordinances?  Will you participate in baptisms for the dead as soon as possible?  Will you
.       participate in family history work and submit the names of ancestors to receive proxy temple ordinances?
.    • Service — Will you accept and fulfill the duties of a calling, including a ministering brother or sister?  Will you support others in their callings?
.    • Teaching and learning in the Church — Will you attend Church?  Will you endure to the end?  Will you continue to live the gospel by keeping baptismal
.       covenants throughout your life?
.    • The Doctrine of Christ — 2 Nephi 31:2-21, 3 Nephi 11:21-41, 3 Nephi 27:13-22

08)  Baptismal interview questions
.    • Do you believe that God is our Eternal Father?  Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of the world?
.    • Do you believe the Church and gospel of Jesus Christ have been restored through the Prophet Joseph Smith?  Do you believe that [current Church president]
.       is a prophet of God?  What does this mean to you?
.    • What does it mean to you to repent?  Do you feel that you have repented of your past transgressions?
.    • Have you ever committed a serious crime?  If so, are you now on probation or parole?  Have you ever participated in an abortion?  A homosexual relationship?
.    • You have been taught that membership in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints includes living gospel standards.  What do you understand of the
.       following standards and are you willing to obey them?
.          º The law of chastity, which prohibits any sexual relationship outside the bonds of a legal marriage between and man and a woman.
.          º The law of tithing.
.          º The Word of Wisdom.
.          º The Sabbath day, including partaking of the sacrament weekly and rendering service to fellow members.
.    • When you are baptized, you covenant with God that you are willing to take upon yourself the name of Christ and keep His commandments throughout your
.       life.  Are you ready to make this covenant and strive to be faithful to it?
