STIMULATOR message for the week of January 4, 1972

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated January 4, 1972

“SUCCESS IS TEAM EFFORT IN 1972”

Dear Fellow Missionaries,

The year of 1972 has been a  year of happiness for Sister Ludwig and me as we have associated here with YOU in the service of our Heavenly Father.  As this new year begins, what would be the counsel of your father and mother to each of you?  It would perhaps not be much different from loving and interested parents in the past:  “Be thou strong, therefore, and shew thyself a man; and keep the charge of the Lord the God to walk in his ways, to keep his statutes and his commandments.”  — David to his son, Solomon (1 Kings 2:2-3)   Also, “Oh, remember my son and learn wisdom in thy youth; yea, learn in they youth to keep the commandments of God.  Counsel with the Lord in all thy doings and He will direct thee for good.  Oh, my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way.”  — Alma to his son, Helaman (Alma chapter 37)

Throughout this new year, remember who you are and why you are here.  Bring honor to them who have such great faith in you.  There is nothing more effective in helping you to achieve in this mission than setting some personal goals.  Be prayerful about your goals, write them down, believe you can achieve them, and then work for them. You can do anything you want to do if you  want to do it bad enough.  We can beat our best in 1972.

Elders and sisters, the reason there are so many problems throughout the world today is because so many people don’t want to accept responsibility.  To build character we must do things daily that are hard and which we would rather not do.  All great men of our time and those who have gone before have found it necessary to discipline themselves.  When I think of some disciplining his life I think of a man from India named Ghandi.  His great ambition was to free his people from the British rule.  He reasoned that before he could control people he had to control himself.  He also said, “If I cannot control myself, how can I control others.”  Gandhi became the greatest power in India.  He became the leader of 500 million people.

May it be the resolve of all to press forward in our scared duty to convince God’s children here in New Zealand that they need the gospel NOW.

Sincerely yours,
President Eugene C. Ludwig

“Life itself cannot give you joy unless you will it: life give you time and space, but you must fill it.”
