STIMULATOR message for the week of April 4, 1972

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated April 4, 1972

“Life is like swimming — you must keep moving to stay on top!”

Dear Fellow Missionaries:

“Wherefore, now let every man learn his duty, and to act in the office in which he is appointed, IN ALL DILIGENCE.”  (Doctrine and Covenants 107; 99)  What about this phrase “…in all diligence”?  Are we truly diligent servants of our Father in Heaven?  What can we do to further perfect ourselves and thus discharge our duties in a manner pleasing to God?

As missionaries we have the sacred responsibility to implant the truths of the Gospel in the hearts and minds of the people in this Mission and we should be diligent, using all available programs to find families and teach them the truths of the Gospel.  May I quote from a report recently received from a pair of our elders?  “We were certainly thrilled here… to be blessed to baptize a family.  Our faith and fasting paid off.  The Lord’s work is such a wonderful thing and we’re glad to be part of it.”

“All things are possible to him that believeth.”  Our power to influence lives comes through humility, prayer, and faith.  Outstanding proselyters do not work because they succeed — they succeed because they work diligently.  Ask yourself this question — What have I done this day that will substantially contribute to convert baptisms in the New Zealand South Mission in 1972?  Each day is another chance to improve on our successes and overcome our failures.  You can change your circumstances by changing your attitude!

We are ambitious or lazy, interesting or dull, faithful or disobedient. according to our attitudes.  In short, we are our attitude!  Unquestionably, the determining factor in the success of this mission lies in our attitudes.  So let’s start with our attitudes to prepare ourselves for the success we desire, and all else will fall in line.  We will be blessed with success comparable to the effort that we put forth.  Go forth now and the Lord will  prepare the way!  Carry your share of the Load!

To be a missionary is a great privilege and a great responsibility, one that should not be taken lightly, but rather should be approached with sincerity and determination to carry out the Lord’s will.  As we diligently serve, and lose ourselves in the work of the Lord, undertaking our assignments with singleness of purpose, the Lord has promised — “If therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.”  May we be blessed to achieve those things we desire in righteousness.

Sincerely your companion,

President Eugene C. Ludwig
