“STIMULATOR” message for the week of July 13, 1971

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated July 13, 1971.

“WORK!  WORK!  WORK!  For the Lord.”    “600” in 1971

Dear missionaries,

How many of you give an honest day’s work for the Lord?  There is neither time nor space in this great missionary program to be spectators only.  We mature properly in our Heavenly Father’s Kingdom as we serve and perform in this most important missionary work.  This is a vast program and we must accept the responsibility and challenge that is ours, with the desire and determination to make a continuous effort.  President McKay once said, “Learn to like your work.  Learn to say, ‘This is my work and my glory, not my doom.  God has blessed us with the privilege of working…too much leisure time is dangerous.”

Work is the great basic principle which makes all things possible, both in time and eternity.  Men, spirits, angels and Gods use their physical and mental powers in work.  In John 5:17, Jesus said, “My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.”  Again He said, “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day.”  (John 9:14)  Time is short, elder and sisters, we can’t afford to waste any of it.

“Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak; for your work shall be rewarded.”  We are convinced that the hard working, successful missionary is the happiest missionary, when we read reports like this: “I have spent one of the best weeks of  my mission this week.  Elder _______ and I have really been happy doing our job.  I wish you could know how happy I am right now and how satisfied I feel.  I am tired, but I spent the week like I have always wanted to spend one — working.  President, I hope that this does not sound too selfish, but when I am working I am happy; and when I am not at least engaged in a good cause I feel like I am cheating the people who are working to support me, let alone my Heavenly Father.”  There is not other work to compare with this missionary service and when we fully measure up, we experience growth and true joy.

May God bless each one of you, that you may set your sights high and then be willing to work hard enough to be a happy, successful missionary.  Our faith is in you!

Sincerely yours,
President and Sister Ludwig
