STIMULATOR message for the week of August 15, 1972

Message from President Merlin W. Sant, August 15, 1972

“Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men.  Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve Him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day.”  (Doctrine and Covenants 4:1-2)

Dear Fellow Missionaries —

This scripture should be well known to all of us, in fact, I hope we have all memorized it and are in the habit of repeating it to ourselves several times a day.  Also, it could be a source of encouragement and strength to recite these two verses aloud, in unison, immediately after singing the mission theme song.  May I suggest that we begin doing this as we meet in our next joint study period.

During the personal interviews at our last zone conference, this theme was discussed, and we want to share it with all of you.

We know this revelation was given originally to Joseph Smith, Sr. in answer to his inquiring of the Lord as to what he could do best in helping to build the Kingdom.  But we know it has general application to all who are in the service of God because He used the terms, “O ye that embark” and “see that ye serve him”, and ye is a plural pronoun.

Now, we know that a marvelous work has come forth among the children of men and will continue to come forth to every person we find who is sincerely searching for the truth.

So the significant message to us in this scripture is that we each serve Him with all our heart, might, mind, and strength.  In other words, that we utilize every talent and faculty we possess or may develop, in teaching the gospel and administering its ordinances to those who seek after it.

And if we do this, we not only may stand “blameless before God at the last day” but how great will be our joy with the many souls we shall bring unto Him, for “remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.” (Doctrine and Covenants 18:10).  As we have come to know you better, we realize what a choice group of young men nd women you are and we are grateful for the privilege of serving in this great mission with you.  May our Father continue to bless you as you serve Him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength.

Sincerely your companions,

President and Sister Sant
