STIMULATOR message for the week of August 22, 1972

Message from President Merlin W. Sant, August 22, 1972

“Remember brethren — God is never frantic.”

Dear Fellow Missionaries —

Evidence would indicate that in our anxiety to baptize, some of us are “getting frantic”, and are disregarding the counsel given us by the General Authorities about a year ago.

We are truly thankful to all who are earnestly striving to build the Kingdom, and we are grateful for the Lord’s blessings to us as we labor in His cause.  But let’s make sure we are moving toward the right goals — converts that will remain.  We seek true conversions, not statistics.  We must have production, but that production must be based on solid conversions.

With your indulgence, may we repeat some of the instruction that President Ludwig gave you last year.  “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruits, and that your fruits should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.”  (John 15:16)

Let’s consider some ways and means of achieving the desired goals in baptizing, making and holding true converts.
•  Bring in complete couples or families when possible.
•  Concentrate on better teaching of our contacts.
•  See that our contacts attend church, especially stake or district conferences, and arrange transportation when necessary.
•  Introduce contacts to local Church leaders and members in wards and branches.
•  Arrange with local fellowshipping people and home teachers to begin their fellowshipping program before baptism, and to continue after baptism.
•  See that candidates for baptism have studied the pamphlet “After Baptism What?”.  We want them to be converted not only to our doctrine, but to our method of .            worship and our way of life.
•  Be sure our contacts understand what their responsibilities will be after baptism, especially their financial obligations.
•  Organize well for the baptismal service, so that everything necessary is done to make it a very special, sacred and memorable occasion.
•  Have faith, be humble and prayerful, work diligently, and you will truly be builders of the Kingdom of God.

We recommend that you keep this as a check list to use each time in preparing yourselves and your candidate for baptism.  If you do this faithfully, your labors will be crowned with success.

With love and appreciation to all,

President and Sister Sant
