“STIMULATOR” message for the week of September 14, 1971

Message from President Eugene C. Ludwig, dated September 14, 1971.

“THE QUITTER NEVER WINS AND THE WINNER NEVER QUITS!”   “600” in 1971

Dear Fellow Missionaries,

We congratulate you for your devotion to your calls as representatives of the Savior and for the success we have had in the first two weeks of September.

One of the great qualities of character is the ability to continue to press forward until an assignment, goal or responsibility is completed.  Elder Richard L. Evans stated: “One of the indispensable elements of a sincerely successful life is the ability, power and capacity, and the willingness to see things through — to carry things beyond conversation to conclusion.  And one of the disappointing qualities of character is the failure to see things through.”

May we also quote from Elder Sterling W. Sill’s book on Leadership:  “In one of Napoleon’s campaigns, an officer had performed magnificently in battle.  Some fellow officers thought that the heroism had gone unnoticed by the Emperor, and they made a strong appeal to Napoleon that the officer should be decorated.  Napoleon said, ‘Let’s wait and see what he does tomorrow.’  The final test of all success, whether it be military, business or religious is — Will his virtue endure”.  Everyone does well on certain occasions or for short periods.  But the one who should be decorated is the one who can continue to win over the long pull.  Continued effort and continued accomplishment are what count.  In fact, it has been pointed out that genius is merely the power to make continuous effort.”

In Matthew 10:22 Jesus said, “He that endureth to the end shall be saved” and to paraphrase, ‘He that endureth to the end shall be successful and he that endureth to the end will be happy’.   Let’s never allow our purpose to be derailed or our enthusiasm to be sidetracked.  Always remember who you are an what you are here for and work faithfully and diligently to the end.

Sincerely your companion,
President Eugene C. Ludwig
