Miscellaneous Pearls — ‘Fourth Floor, Last Door’ experiences found in the scriptures

In the October 2016 General Conference of the Church, President Dieter F. Uchtdorf recounted the conversion story of his wife, Harriet, when she was a young girl.  He entitled his remarks, “Fourth Floor, Last Door”, because the missionaries that knocked on Sister Uchtdorf’s door had endured a long and discouraging day with no success, yet they persisted and visited one last apartment building, and one last floor, and the last door on that floor.  In that apartment they found the future wife of an apostle of Christ.  Following are references to scriptural accounts with a similar message, that of enduring to the end.

  • Naaman washed SEVEN times in the River Jordan.  (2 Kings 5:14)
  • Christ’s apostles fished all night and caught nothing.  (John 21:3)
  • Simeon waited years and years to see the baby Jesus.  (Luke 2:25-26)
  • Elizabeth waited years before she was able to conceive and give birth to John, the future John the Baptist.  (Luke 1:6-7)
  • Enos prayed all night.  (Enos 1:4)
