‘Corruptible man’ — Romans 1:23
Corruptible man — Romans 1:23
Question — Romans 1:23 teaches us that God cannot be a ‘man’, because Paul condemned those who changed the glory of God into the image of corruptible man.
Answer —
- Romans 1:23 — People of those times, especially the Romans, made images resembling man, birds, beasts, snakes, etc.
- Exodus 20:4-5 — God has condemned the worship of ANY idol, even if it resembles Him.
- Romans 1:21 — The people referred to here “knew God” at one time, probably ancient Israel, and they knew God had a body (2 Kings 17:15-16, Exodus 32:4-6)
- Romans 1:23 — That they worshipped the image of an inanimate, corruptible man doesn’t discount that God is an incorruptible, glorified, exalted man.
- Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 — ‘The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s, the Son also…”
- Luke 24 — “handle me and see, for a Spirit hath not flesh and bones as ye see me have…”
