The road to apostasy — October 2023
Brother Ryan Porter, a member of our bishopric, invited his father to speak in our Sacrament meeting on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Brother Porter (senior) has served as a bishop, stake president, and as a sealer in the Provo Temple. His topic was “Covenants”, and as part of his talk, he mentioned the seven steps that usually lead to alienation from the Church. He mentioned:
- Focusing on unanswered or troubling or unresolved questions about Church doctrine or history.
- Finding fault with Church leaders or being offended by Church leaders or members.
- Focusing on doubts rather than on faith.
- Stepping away from church attendance and church commitment.
- Breaking sacred covenants.
- Removal of the temple garment.
