At the funeral services for Sterling Ottesen, held on January 11, 2020 in Mapleton, Utah, one of his daughters related that she found a note card among her father’s many items on his desk. The card contained 10 points to live by. Sterling exemplified and lived by these wonderful principles:
- Be at the crossroads
- Be a real friend
- Read to your children
- Pray with your children
- Teach your children
- Truly love your children
- Have weekly family home evenings
- Be together at mealtime
- Read scriptures daily
- Do things as a family
