The Creation and the Fall — Missionary Training Center presentation

The Creation and The Fall

— The Creation and The Fall —  Sunday afternoon training session — Branch 15

  • Elder Bruce R. McConkie stated, “The three pillars of eternity are the three great truths upon which salvation and exaltation rest.  These three truths are The
.    Creation, The Fall, and The
    Atonement of Jesus Christ.”

    • Why would the Creation and the Fall be considered two of the eternal truths upon which salvation rests?
  • The Creation   ( DISTRICT ______ )
    • Heavenly Father and Jesus created this earth as a place for us to live and gain experience, to gain a body, and to be tested during a time of probation.   We must walk by faith rather than by sight.  (Preach My Gospel, page 49)
    • 1 Nephi 17:36    Why was this earth created?  Why is the verb “possess” used?  Why did the Lord create such a beautiful earth, when a flat, featureless globe would have been sufficient?
    • Alma 30:44   What is a witness?  How is the earth a “witness” of a Supreme Creator?  How is our Solar System a “witness” for a Supreme Creator?  How do prophets and scriptures “denote” the existence of God?
  • The Fall   ( DISTRICT ______ )
    • Adam and Eve were created by God, in His image.  They chose to partake of the forbidden fruit, knowing full well that this would lead to a physical separation from God, the existence of disease and suffering, having children, being tested spiritually, but also giving them the opportunity to eventually return to God and be like Him.
    • Moses 5:10-11   What truths do these verses reveal about Adam and Eve’s understanding of “The Fall”?   Was their view negative or positive?  Was it a careful choice or blind deception?
    • 2 Nephi 9:9   What is the definition of the verb “beguile”?  Were Adam & Eve tricked, fooled, or deceived?  (Beguile is often used in a negative way to refer to the act of deceiving people. But it’s also commonly used to refer to a positive kind of charming.
    • 2 Nephi 2:25   What was the purpose of the Fall?  Was it part of a plan?
    • Abraham 3:24-26   What is the significance of the phrase ‘We will prove them herewith…’?   People often ask: “Why does God allow bad things to happen?”  “Why do we have to suffer?”  “Why do bad things happen to good people?”  How do these verses answer these questions?
  • Agency   ( DISTRICT ______)
    •  Adam and Eve exercised their moral agency, or their God-given gift to choose and act for themselves, to choose between right and wrong.  The use of this agency allowed them to progress, grow spiritually, and fulfill the purpose of their creation.
    • 2 Nephi 2:27   How does this verse help us understand that we are free to choose, but we are not free to choose the consequences of our choices?
    • Joshua 24:14-15   What is the significance of the words fear, serve, truth, and choose in these verses?
