— Effective counseling can occur in a one-on-one setting, in a small group setting, or in larger groups. The primary goals of effective counseling are to identify a
. need or challenge and to work toward a solution. These goals are best accomplished by:
. A. Identifying the issue or challenge, being specific and concise
. B. Inviting open discussion about the challenge and proposing potential solutions
. C. Checking for agreement or consensus
. D. Setting goals and making specific plans and assignments
. E. Deciding how to follow up and be accountable
