Jesus heals the daughter of Jairus

Jesus heals Jairus’ daughter:

Matthew 9:18-26, Mark 5:21-43, Luke 8:41-56

  • A Jewish ruler of a synagogue sought out Jesus, fell at His feet, and worshipped him. What do we know about Jairus already?
  • Jesus immediately arose and follow him.  “Could you make an appointment?  I am quite busy this morning.”  Lesson to be learned?
  • Who touched me? In a large crowd? Lesson to be learned about spiritual sensitivity?
  • Consider what Jairus was thinking or doing during Christ’s encounter with the diseased woman? Why did Jesus stop when He was on such an important, urgent errand?  Lesson?
  • The woman was diseased for twelve years, and she was made whole from that very hour. Consider this carefully.  What are the symptoms of anemia?
  • What were the essential components of the healing?  Faith, power, action!
  • Why do we love this good sister? Where was she?  Where could she have been?  How easy was it to get close to Jesus and touch the hem of His garment?
  • Jairus, be not afraid – only believe? Good advice for missionaries?
  • Only Peter, James, and John followed Christ at this point. Nine apostles were left at the scene of the healing.  Why?
  • “She is not dead but sleepeth…” The minstrels and mourners mocked Him.  How easy is it to be laughed at, scorned, ridiculed?  Jesus’ reaction?  What could He have said or done?
  • Who were the five people invited into the house? Why them?
  • After raising the girl from death, Jesus asks for food to be brought. Lesson?
  • What did Peter, James, and John learn from this experience that would bless them later?
  • Jesus told the five not to tell others what had happened and left quietly. What might He have done at this point?  Lesson?
