Growing up spiritually

Sister Maurine Ward

Sister Ward shared these thoughts in The Ensign, December 1975

What positive steps can we take, no matter our age, to become more spiritually mature?

  • Recognize where you are spiritually:
    • Enos whished to commune with the Lord with such intensity that he prayed all day and all night.
    • Maturing is a process, not an event that happens all at once.
    • Maturing spiritually requires more than a casual commitment.
  • Get involved in practical tasks to help build the Lord’s kingdom.
    • Do thoughtful things to make someone’s life a little brighter.
    • In every day actions and endeavors, try to act as God would act.
  • Choose friends and associate with those who spiritually uplift you.
    • Build, inspire, lift, encourage, serve, support.
  • Study the gospel daily, and study trusted sources.
    • Every day, discover or incorporate an eternal principle.
  • Make your prayers sincere.
    • Prayers cannot be mumbled repetitions.
    • Prayers must spring from an intense desire to communicate!
    • Rely on the Lord, through prayer, to direct your life.
